As another year end is almost upon us, we, the Beacon Team, can look back and reflect how far we have come since our first issue in December 1998. Our first issue was a 32 page magazine, that tested all our resolve to produce. Since then, with the support of our advertisers, contributors and our large band of deliverers – The Beacon continues to go from strength to strength in Pickering. We have had 12 years of publication and are now on issue 45, the last 6 issues which have had colour. Hopefully, we entertain, amuse and most importantly keep you, our readers informed of coming events, clubs and societies, and of the different organisations that give help, entertainment and support to Pickering residents. The last 12 months have been particularly difficult for our local businesses with the recession and bank related problems. It is important to support them by using their services, or when you need them, they may not still be here! There are still clubs and organisations out there in Pickering that we rarely or never hear from! What are you doing? What’s your programme of activities? Do you want new members? If the Beacon doesn’t know, then a lot of Pickering residents also don’t know! Why not write an article about your club? As always, now is the time to thank the people and businesses who support the Beacon: our advertisers; contributors; our deliverers and of course our readers! Without all of you, there would be no Beacon! Thanks to all! We wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. The Pickering Beacon Production Team. |
