The clocks have gone back and the long winter evenings are upon us once again. How good it is to sit by the fire and enjoy a good read. However this may not be possible if you are visually impaired. We at Ryedale Talking Magazines produce a free monthly ninety minute magazine recorded on cassette tape comprising a wide variety of topics – from magazine articles and stories to personal reminiscences and experiences, with some music. The content is determined by our readers who individually choose what they will read – so hopefully there is something for everyone. Our loyal band of readers gather on the first Thursday of each month at the home of one of our committee members in Pickering between 10.00am and 12 noon for a cup of coffee and a chat. Each reader has a 5 to 10 minute slot to record what they have chosen to read – so it only involves a short period of time out from all our busy lives! The tapes are sent out in a special free post envelope to the 50 or so current listeners who return them in the same free post envelope. The main aim of the magazine is to provide interest and entertainment rather than news or local information. We are keen to increase the number of our listeners and it is always good to have new readers. We are also looking for someone with technical knowledge of recording and editing to assist our Editor. Why not give it a try – just contact our secretary whose details appear below and request a copy. Judy Sleeman, Chairman, Ryedale Talking Magazines. |
