Kirkbymoorside & District Camera Club

The autumn programme consisted of 5 entertaining and informative evenings with guest speakers covering a variety of topics. It started with Nigel Harrison (of Radio York fame) giving his ‘Introduction to flower photography’, this was very well received as it showed Nigel’s progress from a ‘snapper’ to a photographer. We then had Keaton Roebuck from Pontefract who showed some amazing colour prints. What really impressed us was that he had printed them himself in the darkroom, which must be one of the hardest things in photography. We digital photographers find it hard to appreciate the effort that goes into the production of these prints as we churn out prints on our inkjet printers.
One evening showed how the presenter had progressed to a licentiate of the RPS, another ‘A walk on the wild side – through the eyes of a fox’ and then the highly qualified Keth Suddaby from Morpeth presented ‘The House of 100 windows’, even more amazing images. Whilst all this was going we had our exhibition at Sutton Bank; this was attended by over 1000 visitors and from the comments received, greatly appreciated.
The winter season has a number of competitions; club competitions for monochrome, digital and applied, a three way print battle with Malton and Scarborough, and then just before Christmas we have our fun en-print competition and mince pie evening, not so much of a competition more a social gathering. In the New Year we have the popular Yorkshire photographer Steve Gosling returning and he will be giving his interpretation on ‘The Natures of Creativity’. Later we have a visit by the Yorkshire Monochrome Group and then Len Shepherd from Leyburn presents ‘Landscapes and Wild things’
If you would like to know more about the club come along to one of our meetings at 7.30 pm. on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the British Legion Club, Kirkbymoorside where you will find a group of friendly people, of all abilities and experience, with a common interest.
