Ryedale Talking Magazine is a small charity, based in Pickering and founded in 1981, which provides a free monthly magazine recorded on tape and , from January on CD as well, for those Ryedale residents who are blind, partially sighted or otherwise visually impaired. A group of about 20 dedicated volunteers read items which they have individually chosen as being of interest. Accordingly, there is a wide variety of topics - from magazine articles, stories and poems to personal reminiscences and experiences. These are then edited on to tape and CD and sent out by Free Post to our 50 or so current listeners. The main aim of our magazine is to provide interest and entertainment rather than news or local information. RTM is registered with the Charity Commissioners and receives no regular funding, relying solely on fund raising and unsolicited donations. This year we were very lucky to receive a grant from The Big Lottery for the specific purpose of buying equipment necessary for us to be able to produce the magazine on CD as well as tape. If you know of anyone who may like to receive the magazine please contact us for further information. Val Bulidon.
