Town Guided Walks

Monday morning – Time to discover Pickering! Enthusiastic and friendly guides from Pickering Civic Society will be leading guided walks through the town every Monday morning until the end of October. One of six leaders will meet would-be explorers at the Tourist Information Centre in the Ropery for an easy hour and a half stroll. Each walk features the history of the town and its surroundings and is tailored to appeal to both visitors and locals.
Every town guide is keen to share their knowledge and love of Pickering, in an easy-going way, but we also learn a bit more every time we lead a walk!
Over the years, visitors from many different countries, as well as locals have been introduced to some of Pickering’s historic people and places including the visionary behind the world’s first agricultural college, and – of course – the railway pioneers who built a station in Pickering before there were any in London.
We will also explain how attackers of the Norman castle were defeated by a  hedgehog,  although visitors will have to join us on a walk to find out how!
The walk leaves from Pickering Tourist Information Centre at 10:30. Tickets cost £1.50 from the Information Centre and give reduced admission charges to Beck Isle Museum.
