METHODIST CHURCH

As members of the Methodist Church we are called to worship, learning and caring, service and evangelism. Learning and caring takes place "through Bible study and meeting for fellowship, so that we can grow in faith and support others in their discipleship". (Methodist membership card)

Each year, in spring, a booklet is produced listing all the meetings and groups connected with the church, with information about the activities which have been taking place over the past 12 months. The Sunday morning service is always the focal point of the week, but is only a small part of the whole seven days of Christian worship and witness. There are 10 home groups, with anything from 6 to 12 members, where Bible study, fellowship and prayer are central to the meeting. We get to know each other well, and friendship and support is always available. Another smaller group has formed, to help those wishing to learn more of the Christian faith, and a monthly prayer meeting and weekly morning meeting for prayer also take place.

The booklet also informs us of all the groups, on Sundays and during the week, for children and young people, beginning with the creche and leading on through Sunday School to a great variety of youth meetings and activities, some based at the church but many involving events with other young Christians in Pickering and further afield. Through the week, events such as the Monday lunchtime "Drop-In", Women's Network, Tuesday Group, "Connections" and Guild mean that a Christian group is meeting in the church buildings almost every day. Cinema welcomes friends once a month for the family

film and once for the older generation (this film is often a musical.) Note! - June 4th  is family cinema at 6.30pm; June 20th is the matinee at 2pm.)

Equally important are the links within the community, such as regular services, Bible study or hymn-singing at 5 Whitby Road, Alba Rose and Orchard Close; church flower distribution, support for Carecent, (work with the homeless in York) and for Samaritan's Purse, (with shoeboxes and for "Turn on the Tap").

We hope that, with all these opportunities, we can "grow in faith and support others in their discipleship".

We welcome everyone to join us at any time during the week and of course, to come to our Sunday service each week at 10.30am. There will always be someone to greet you and if you need to talk with somebody that can be arranged too. We would be delighted to see you!
