A very big thank you to the people of Pickering and District for your help and support in enabling us to offer assistance to our community and those in need globally, over the past year. Remember, every penny donated for a particular cause is sent to those needing support, all administration costs are borne by Rotary members themselves.

As well as events and collections, Rotarians have been active in raising funds using their time and expertise. These activities as well as your generosity, has meant that we have been able to send equipment (water purification equipment and shelters) to those suffering from  natural disasters in Pakistan and most recently Japan and  support for Funding a school in Africa. Every year Rotary International, with help from Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft, have made  inroads into the eradication of Polio in third world countries.

We are pleased to report that this work is gradually seeing the decline of this dreadful illness in all areas of operation. One day we hope to be able to report the end of polio, and with hard work and your help, we shall.

Locally, together we have supported the following organisations: Young Musician Competition; Air Ambulance; Youth Technology Competition; Parish Church; Youth Speaks; Stroke Association; Scouts; Pickering Youth Council; Ryedale School; Ryedale Special families; Scarborough Mountain Rescue Team; Wilf Ward Trust; Welburn Hall School and Stape Silver Band. A sizable donation was given to BLESMA, the Soldiers  organisation that provides support to our forces who have been injured in battle, most notably Afghanistan. We will be raising more funds for this cause in the current year.

You may wish to know how much we have raised, some of which you have helped us to donate to these causes. In the past year we have made donations amounting to over £10,000

Thank you very much once again and we hope that together we will continue to help and make a   difference to those in need.

  Ian Williams.
