Pickering Musical Society

As many of you will know, this year is the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Kirk Theatre. By the time you read this, our celebratory show “25 Years of Song” will have come and gone – hopefully to full houses and audiences perhaps, still humming some of the many familiar songs from the shows.

However, the society, like time, never stands still and we are now preparing to start rehearsals for the annual Wartime Revue, which will take place, as usual in October. For any new residents of Pickering, who are wondering what I am talking about - we always present this show to coincide with the Railway’s Wartime Weekend. Hopefully, our contribution to this ever-popular event, enhances the weekend and gives locals and re-enactors alike, a further chance to live (or relive) the Wartime era. This year’s show is entitled “Hope & Glory” and it will run from 7th – 12th October. It will be our 8th production of this type and it goes from strength to strength each year. Everyone involved will tell you that it is great fun (and quite hard work!) to do. The end product makes all the hard work worthwhile and the buzz the performers get, seeing the audiences, many dressed in 1940’s outfits, joining in and thoroughly enjoying themselves, is amazing!

Looking further ahead, our panto will be in January 2009. There will be more information about this in the next Beacon.

If you would like to join us, in any capacity, please contact our Secretary, Jane Sampson, on 01751 477355. All are welcome – including youngsters aged  between 8 – 14, for whom there is a Youth Section. We are particularly in need of men (who isn’t?!), so come on fellas, don’t be coy – give us a whirl and join in the fun! Hope to see you at the theatre soon!
