Bread |

I asked the
husband to buy some bread
But back he came, empty handed, instead
“What shall I get”, he said in despair
“There must be hundreds of loaves up there.
Do you want stone ground, wholemeal, brown or white
Large or small, farmhouse, malted or Nimble white
Granary, organic, thin, medium or thick
Baguette, croissant or French stick
Bagels, seeded batch, buns or milk roll
Bloomers dusted with poppy seeds, ground or whole
Should I get cut or uncut, my head's in a spin
Nobody knows the turmoil I'm in.”
Then off he dashed an returned with a packet of yeast
And a bag of flour, 6lb at least.
Let’s make bread like mother did back then
And we’ll call it “proper bread”
