Ryedale Talking Magazine is a small charity, based in Pickering. Founded in 1981 to provide a free monthly magazine, recorded on tape for those Ryedale residents who are blind or partially sighted. Volunteers, all very dedicated, read items which they have individually chosen as being of interest. Accordingly, there is a wide variety of topics – from magazine articles and stories, to personal reminiscences and experiences. These are then edited onto 90 minute long tapes and sent out  by Freepost to our listeners. The main aim of the magazine is to provide interest and entertainment, rather than news or local information.

Ryedale Talking Magazine is a Registered Charity and receives no regular funding, relying solely on fundraising and  unsolicited donations to meet our regular running costs. We are constantly seeking to improve our service and have been very fortunate this year, our 30th year in existence, to receive an award from The Big Lottery, specifically to enable us to buy the equipment needed to record our magazine on CD as well as tape.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in receiving our tapes or eventually CD’s, we are always very willing to send out a sample tape.
