Pioneering sight loss service set for Pickering – Sight Support Ryedale, the local charity providing services for blind and partially sighted people in the area, has arranged for Action for Blind People’s pioneering mobile ‘Sight Loss Information Service’. This is packed with the latest aids, equipment and specialist advice for blind and partially sighted people, and is to visit Ryedale in September. The mobile Sight Loss Information Service, run by national charity Action for Blind People, will open its doors to people interested in, or affected by visual impairment. Staffed by a friendly and knowledgeable team, the mobile carries the latest technology and gadgets to improve daily life. From vibrating bank note detectors to talking microwaves and tin lids, staff on the unit offer impartial, practical advice and support. Janice Every, the Chief Officer of Sight Support Ryedale said, "Everybody in the Pickering area is welcome to come along to visit the mobile on the day it’s at Pickering. Whether you are sight impaired, or know somebody who may be having problems with their sight, please pay a visit and pick up information or have your questions answered. Visitors can try out a wide range of daily living aids or the latest computer and magnification technology.” The unit will be in Pickering on 22nd September, at The Ropery car park during the morning, 10-12am, and Ings Garth Community Centre during the afternoon, 2-4pm.
